Auto Feature Alignment

This video will demonstrate alignment using an Auto Feature template in GC Image.

Note

Demos 4, 5, and 6 should be completed in sequence.

The public dataset used in this demo can be downloaded here:

Supporting files to help in following along with this quick start demo can be downloaded here:

1 Processing the Dataset

The Project software is useful to quickly process many samples in a batch. We will process the entire Chocolates dataset using a predefined method. The method used in this step is included in the Chocolates Demo Processing Files linked above (Chocolates.method/).

  1. Open the Project software.
  2. From the menu, select File > New Project... > Empty Project.
  3. Browse to a location to save the project and click Save.
  4. Select the Runs folder from the Project Tree on the left.
  5. From the menu, select File > Import Files.
  6. Browse to the location of the Chocolates dataset, select all .cdf files, click Import, and choose to Link the files.
  7. From the menu, select Run > Auto Process.
    • From the General tab, enter a Modulation Period (Sec) of 4.0.
    • From the Automated Actions tab, enable Use Method, and browse to the downloaded Chocolates.method/ file.
    • Click Start to begin processing. This process may take some time (20+ min). Progress is shown on the displayed log.
  8. The processed image files can be found in the Images folder of the project. From the menu, select File > View in File Explorer to quickly find this folder.

2 Generating the Auto Feature Template

The auto feature template created from this step is included in the Chocolates Demo Processing Files linked above (FeatureTemplate.bt).

  1. Open the Investigator/Analysis software.
  2. From the menu, select File > Load Images....
  3. Browse to and select all processed images from the Chocolates dataset. Click Open.
  4. Select the Auto generate a feature template option, provide a File Name, and click Browse. Browse to a location to save the auto feature template and click Save.
    • Alternatively, you can use the provided template by selecting Apply an existing feature template and browsing to the provided template.
  5. From the Attributes tab, enable Analyze Specific Blob/Area Attributes, select Choose Retention and Response Attributes, and enable all shown attributes.
  6. Click OK to begin the process. This process may take some time (5+ min).
  7. After the images have been loaded, view the results by stepping through the list of images on the left of the window.
  8. From the menu, select File > Save Analysis. Browse to your desired save location, provide a file name, and click Save.
