How to set Color Map to show peaks with very low responses

Post by qtao »

Question: I am working on chromatograms containing a lot of compounds with very low amounts. So nearly everything is blue in my chromatograms. Is there a Color Map that a smaller difference between intensities is highlight by a stronger color change than in the current configuration?

Answer:
With respect to the color mapping, on the "View -> Colorize" pane, there are a few settings that you might try.

On the "Value Mapping" settings, first try "Automatic". If that doesn't give the result you want, try the "Parametric" setting. With the parametric setting, dragging the slider all the way to the left, so that the parameter is 0.01, gives you a logarithmic scale with the largest change at the low end of the scale.

If that result is still not good, you might try to adjust the Min and Max. For example, making the Max smaller will compress the range of the value mapping and so use the colorization scale over a smaller range.

If there are no values of Min and Max that give good enough results, you could try reworking the actual color scale using the Red, Green, and Blue functions, which are the basis of most of the color maps we apply, or the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness functions, which could be the basis of a color map and which would provide more direct control over the brightness function.
